Kidney Biopsy

A kidney biopsy is a medical procedure used to diagnose and sometimes treat kidney diseases or disorders. It involves the removal of a small sample of kidney tissue for examination under a microscope. Kidney biopsy is usually performed by a radiologist, nephrologist, or interventional radiologist. The patient lies on their stomach or side on an examination table, and the healthcare provider uses ultrasound or CT imaging to precisely locate the kidney. The skin over the kidney area is cleaned and numbed with a local anesthetic. A thin, hollow needle is then inserted through the skin and into the kidney to obtain a small tissue sample.
